Since Jerusalem didn't fall in 607ce as per secular historians, those calculations don't mean anything. In fact, when I was looking for proof one way or the other about the WT, I found that the Revelation book and the Daniel's prophesy book, contradicted one another on what 3 1/2 times really meant. It's hilarious, you should read it yourself.

Please explain!
by Freedom rocks inhi please can someone explain this in laymans terms for me coz i be ever got it as a jw and still don't.
it doesn't make sense to me.
bible chronology indicates that god’s kingdom was established in heaven in 1914. this is shown by a prophecy recorded in chapter 4 of the bible book of daniel.. overview of the prophecy.

The laziness of JW parents....
by stuckinarut2 init struck me that the society has created a culture of lazy jw parenting.. rather than parents being there to guide and direct and help their children through all stages of life, the gb / society has become the "go-too" for everything.. if the child has an issue, there is a wt article for that.. does the child need help with something else?
ah, there is a caleb and sophia cartoon for that.. what about that other topic?
ah, there is a book for that.. so rather than being present parents, the average jw parent simply outsources their parenting to the organization!

My mom was even lazier than that. Taking us to the meetings was enough.
Oh and there wasn't a Godly cartoon in sight at that time. Nope, just the WT and talks to instruct us. After coming back from the meeting, nothing at all was spoken about God etc cause sitting at the meetings took care of it.

Everything I once knew as a JW, is now wrong.
by fulltimestudent injust had 2 nice witnesses at the door.
without boring you with all the to-ing and fro-ing.
i invented a friend who became a witness back in the early 1950s, this friend tried to get me to become a witness, because his teachers father (a leader in that congregation) told him that the big a was coming in 5 years (which was true).

It was a "God" send that WW1 happened and it got fit into the 1914 scenario. That was always a big point for me so I understand why most JW's would have a hard time letting that go.

2018 Regional Convention program available on JW.borg
by sir82 inhttps://www.jw.org/en/publications/books/convention-program-2018/.
friday.
be courageous and very strong”—joshua 1:7

I now see conventions as opportunities for the org to counter things that affect it negatively. I can imagine org higher-ups, being aware of "apostate" opposition, looking for ways to incorporate into convention parts material countering opposition activities and arguments. Magnum
Yeah, gone are the days of scripture proving doctrines.
My take on this convention - the WT has noticed trends that worry them.
Friday
- Enthusiasm for preaching, being moral and staying out of politics is definitely lacking.
- JW's are feeling despair, are becoming unhappy with the changes so they are complaining, are tired and missing field service to have fun (or maybe they aren't tired and don't care about FS) are finding better mates/friends in the world and the internet is wising some people up about the WT.
friday afternoon
- Serious lack of sacrificing everything for the WT.
Saturday
- Everyone in the congregation - new bible students to the "pillars" of the congregation, the elders - are finding it hard to peddle the word of god.
- The majority are lacking motivation
Sat. afternoon
- They use cute animal stories and cute fairytale stories from far away places to encourage them to do more - but really it's to make them feel guilty for not doing enough
- P.S. Don't confuse courage with thinking for yourself.
Sunday
- It's necessary to address the old that are in despair over Armageddon being farther away and the new ones who hope they will walk into Armageddon.
- You old timers - you get the consolation prize of the resurrection
- You new ones - you get the same story told to the old timers when they were young. Armageddon is just ahead!

It's Not The Dark That Kills You
by compound complex inwhile i was watching a program on islands of the pacific ocean, the three largest islands in the world were mentioned.
little have i ever thought of greenland, the largest island in the world.
i decided to learn a little more about this arctic hunk of frozen land, which had no relevance to the program on tropical paradise other than it's an island.. the name of the article i read online includes the words of the topic title above.

I've known about Greenland's suicide rate, but not the cause. Cutting people off from what they know as "life" makes life seem meaningless.
I think about myself and how the WT took away value and meaning to life. Not supposed to cherish things or ways of life that are "counterproductive" and will disappear when the New Order gets here. Then you are cast out when you realize they have it wrong. Stranded without the past or a family.
How sad for everyone.

Cart observations from Cardiff South Wales
by freddo ini was in a suburb of cardiff, capital of wales where it was difficult to get near to my customer's offices to deliver and install what i do.
i had my car parked about a hundred yards away and had to make several trips with goods and tools past a local jw trolley cart.
as i was working i didn't stop but observed much of the time from an upper floor office window.. in the hour or so i was there, on a warm sunny (for late february) lunchtime/early afternoon - right by a bus stop and several local shops, cafes and banks with plenty of people about - not one person stopped at the cart.. the two women at the cart i guess were about 50 and 75 respectively - pleasant looking motherly/grandmotherly types.

Thanks for posting. I don't mind that you didn't talk to them for hours and converted them to ex jw...They needed a little taste of reality.

Junk DNA. Science uses words like "junk" and "primitive cells" which don't describe accurately what they really are.
Junk dna means that everyone/thing has dna that is the same. It's just not activated. My nephew told me this because he believes in evolution. He thought I would believe it too. But to me, it just means that the creator(s) were
lazyefficient. Didn't mean they were perfect or had a perfect system thought out. Just another science experiment. -

" It is the True Religion ! "
by Phizzy inspeaking to two jw's, separately and days apart, they both weaved in to the conversation the phrase " it is the true religion " .. now in neither case was it possible for me to do my usual thing, piling in with both guns blazing and pointing out that it is impossible for there to be any such thing as "the true religion", unless by "truth" you mean that which is true in your opinion and not supported by facts or reality etc etc.
my question is : is this mere coincidence, or has there been an article or something telling them to say this ?
if there is, could someone point me to it ?

At work, I get "encouraged" by a witness who is always hinting at how horrible the world is. How it can't get much worse....
Maybe they had a local talk that stressed that point.

Where some of the money is going - from AM III
by Listener inthere is a public talk given by tight pants tony on youtube titled "the real armageddon, why, when"his talk, as usual, doesn't make much sense.
he says armageddon is not a nuclear holocaust or an asteroid hitting the earth it's god's war against all the political nations of the earth.
he talks about a celestial phenomenon that will be phenomenal.

the other hand it wouldn't surprise me if they do have some kind of underground complex, or a small one for The GB, at least.
They had them in the past, I'm sure they thought of that at Warwick. Are they going to let the brothers that worked on the bunkers in too? Or will they be like the
PhariseesPharaohs who buried the master workers with them? (the burying them is probably from some old movie lol) Like thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1E-nSNjzlY

Cheap Shots Fired
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho inwhen @brian j’s “bullet in the head” thread went live (https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/4747450574176256/session-8-bullet-head) those written shots echoed in my mind.
a week later while overhearing a bible study, the conductor was asked if god really has given us “free will”.
but if someone ever put a gun to my head and asked me to renounce my faith as a jehovah’s witness, i would die.”.

Very true that most witnesses - the "rank and file" ones anyway - would stand up for their faith in very terrible situations.
Then you have geoffrey jackson using a convenient lie to save himself on the stand. Oh the embarrassment of being found God's spokesmen, would have been like "death" to him.
